My World

What Are We Looking For?
The first words spoken by Jesus in the gospel of John are found in chapter 1 and verse 37. In the NRSV (New Revised Standard Version of the Bible), it reads like this, When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them, “What are you looking for?”They said to him, Rabbi (which translated means “Teacher”), where are you staying? The key phrase is, “What are you looking for?”
I watch television news. I read newspapers. I read news magazines. I check the internet. I listen to people. Of greatest importance is that I listen to the Holy Spirit. Most people are looking for answers to the increase in the cost of living. Some are even considering the increasing cost of dying. What are you looking for?
Our scripture reference, in the context of the story, reveals that two of the followers of John the Baptist heard him proclaim that Jesus was the Lamb of God. The result was that the two followed Jesus, and that brought forth the question from the Master, What are you looking for? They addressed him as Teacher, and wanted to know where he was staying (not where he lived). The result was that they received an invitation to be with him the remainder of the day, and least one of them (Andrew), would spend the next three years following Jesus. He would learn how to present the Gospel of the Kingdom to people in physical, mental, and spiritual pain. And most of them were also people who were in political and social bondage. Andrew found what he was looking for. He found the Christ! What are we looking for?
The answers to the rising cost of fuel, medical care, groceries, etc. are ALL found in the life Jesus came to give. According to his word, it IS abundant! No shortages!
Stay blessed,
Dr. Paul
P.S. Andrew has been called “The Great Introducer” because he brought his brother, Simon Peter, to meet Jesus. If we look for Jesus and spend time with him, it is possible for us to present the gospel to someone who will become a “Doer of Exploits” for our Savior.
